Het herstel en de modernisering van twee C-130-vliegtuigen voor de Koninklijke Luchtmacht (KLu) groeide uit tot een van de meest ambitieuze en technisch complexe engineeringprojecten ooit uitgevoerd.

Naast de upgrade van de twee bestaande C-130H-30-toestellen van de KLu ondersteunde Marshall ook de aanschaf van twee EC-130Q-airframes uit de Verenigde Staten. Het project omvatte een complexe internationale transportoperatie: elk toestel werd in Tucson gedemonteerd, over de weg vervoerd naar Houston, per schip naar Tilbury Docks in het Verenigd Koninkrijk gebracht en vervolgens opnieuw over land vervoerd naar de Marshall-faciliteit in Cambridge.

Eenmaal aangekomen in Cambridge begon de herstelwerkzaamheden. De EC-130Q’s werden teruggebracht naar de C-130H-standaard en waar mogelijk aangepast aan de systemen van de oorspronkelijke KLu-vloot. Daarnaast kregen alle vier de toestellen uitgebreide avionica- en veiligheidsupgrades binnen het Cockpit Upgrade Programme (CUP) en het Cabin Safety Improvement Programme (CSIMP).

The recovery and modernization of two C-130 aircraft for the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) became one of the most ambitious and technically demanding engineering programmes ever undertaken.

In addition to upgrading the RNLAF’s existing two C-130H-30 aircraft, Marshall supported the acquisition of two EC-130Q airframes from the United States. The project involved a complex international transport operation: each aircraft was dismantled in Tucson, moved by road to Houston, shipped across the Atlantic to Tilbury Docks in the UK, and finally transported overland to Marshall’s Cambridge facility.

Once in Cambridge, the aircraft entered the recovery phase. The EC-130Qs were restored to C-130H standard and, where possible, configured to match the systems used on the RNLAF’s original fleet. Alongside this work, all four aircraft received significant avionics and safety upgrades through the Cockpit Upgrade Programme (CUP) and Cabin Safety Improvement Programme (CSIMP).
