KONINKLIJKE LUCHTMACHT AH64D

In 1993 startte Nederland een selectieproces voor een nieuwe gevechtshelikopter. De belangrijkste kandidaten waren de AH-1W Super Cobra, AH-64D Apache, A-129 Mangusta en de Eurocopter Tiger. Begin 1995 werd bekendgemaakt dat de AH-64D Apache als winnaar uit de bus kwam.

Op 24 mei 1995 tekende Nederland een contract voor dertig AH-64D-helikopters voor de Koninklijke Luchtmacht. Opvallend is dat de Nederlandse toestellen niet beschikken over de kenmerkende Longbow-radarkoepel boven de rotor en daarom niet als ‘Apache Longbow’ worden aangeduid. Wel zijn ze volledig voorbereid om deze radar later te kunnen installeren.

De Nederlandse Apaches zijn uitgerust met een uniek zelfbeschermingssysteem, bestaande uit twee AMASE-pods van het Deense bedrijf Terma, gemonteerd aan de vleugeltips. Om de periode tot de levering te overbruggen, werd een overeenkomst gesloten met de Verenigde Staten voor de lease van twaalf oudere AH-64A-helikopters van het Amerikaanse leger. Tegenwoordig werkt Boeing aan een моdеrnisatie van 28 Nederlandse AH-64D’s. In 1993, the Netherlands initiated a selection process for a new attack helicopter. The main candidates were the AH-1W Super Cobra, AH-64D Apache, A-129 Mangusta, and the Eurocopter Tiger. In early 1995, it was announced that the AH-64D Apache had been selected as the winner.

On May 24, 1995, the Netherlands signed a contract for thirty AH-64D helicopters for the Royal Netherlands Air Force. Notably, the Dutch aircraft do not feature the distinctive Longbow radar dome above the rotor and are therefore not referred to as “Apache Longbow.” However, they are fully prepared to have this radar installed at a later stage.

The Dutch Apaches are equipped with a unique self-protection system consisting of two AMASE pods, produced by the Danish company Terma, mounted on the wingtips. To bridge the gap until delivery, an agreement was made with the United States to lease twelve older AH-64A helicopters from the U.S. Army.Today, Boeing is working on a modernization of 28 Dutch AH-64D helicopters.
